A friend of ours in church told us how he was looking for a church when he moved to a new neighbourhood. He went from one church to another. At the one church a priest met him and asked if he was there for a bingo night. At another church the leader answered the door with a drink and a cigarette in his hand. Then he walked past a small entrance to a church that looked like a café and someone asked if: “Can I tell you what the Bible says about Jesus?” Twenty years later our friend is still functional and fruitful in that Jesus centered church!
Here are 10 things the Bible says about Jesus:
1. He is the Saviour of our souls. 1 John 4:14
1Jn_4:14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as Savior of the world.
2. He is the Redeemer and Passover Lamb that is slain for our sins, so that we should not die in our sins but live eternally.
Exo_12:27 that you shall say, ‘It is the Passover sacrifice of the LORD, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt when He struck the Egyptians and delivered our households.’ ” So the people bowed their heads and worshiped.
During the last supper, Jesus revealed that His body would become the Passover for his disciples to come:
1Co_11:24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”
1Co_5:7 Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us.
3. He is also the Mediator of a better and new covenant that has better promises for us.
Heb 12:24 to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.
4. He is the Christ and anointed one who showed us how to get back to the Father God.
He is the Son of God
Mat 16:15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
Mat 16:16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
5. He is the source of our life and living water.
Joh_4:10 Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”
Joh_7:38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”
6. He is the bread of life and He is the Word made flesh.
Joh_6:32 Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven.
Joh_6:33 For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
7. He is the light of the world that shines through us
Joh 9:5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
Mat 5:14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.
Mat 5:15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.
Mat 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
8. He has the name above all names.
He was willing to become like us and served us with humility to the point of death on a cross. That’s why God has highly exalted him and given him the name above every name – at that name every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord of all.
Php 2:7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.
Php 2:8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.
Php 2:9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name,
Php 2:10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,
Php 2:11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
9. If you confess with your mouth, that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved!
Rom 10:8 But what does it say? “THE WORD IS NEAR YOU, IN YOUR MOUTH AND IN YOUR HEART” (that is, the word of faith which we preach):
Rom 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
Rom 10:10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Rom 10:11 For the Scripture says, “WHOEVER BELIEVES ON HIM WILL NOT BE PUT TO SHAME.”
Rom 10:12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him.
Rom 10:13 For “WHOEVER CALLS ON THE NAME OF THE LORD SHALL BE SAVED.”
10. He is the Head of the Church of the Firstborn registered in heaven and He is coming for His Bride the Church, and has promised to prepare a place for you!
Eph 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,
Eph 5:26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word,
Eph 5:27 that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.
Joh 14:1 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.
Joh 14:2 In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
Joh 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.
