By Apostle Aje Pelser
Preached at Harvester Reformational Church, Cape Town
Sometimes when I meditate, God takes me to a place of clarity. We are working in multiple spheres of influence that traverses the globe on a daily basis. But we are still locally involved and working to see Christ formed in every person we meet.
We are truly commissioned to go and commanded to love all the time!
When my dad, Apostle Andre Pelser, started to mission up exponentially, I started to see the need for following up the work of mission, and for consolidating the planted churches and bible colleges. Over the years I felt it necessary to first implement all he had taught me at home base before moving on to teaching other leaders. That’s why I only wrote about leadership after working it out for twenty years on multiple platforms the Lord had prepared.
If you look at a puzzle long enough, a pattern will emerge, a corner will present itself and from that little piece of clarity, the rest will begin to fit in.
That’s how faith works for me too. All I need is that little mustard seed to get going.
There is an App called “Kickstarter” that garners support for worthy projects. The concept is the same but on a spiritual level.
When we get that first bit of hearing God’s voice in a direction and someone comes to confirm it, or God gives you a confirming sign, or your brothers back you with some encouraging advice, that’s all you need to get going.
Once I played with a rugby player who knew how to pass me into a gap. I always had the pace on wing, but the ball seldom got to me. One day this fly half skipped the centre and passed me into a gap and said: “Go!”
That is one of the most exhilarating moments in life – when your buddy believes in you and you get a nitro boost in your step and it accelerates you to your goal.
And yes I scored that day – in fact I scored five tries that day albeit in a school game!
After years of chasing after lost causes and getting frustrated, all it took was one word to get going and break all my limitations.
Let’s look at some principles from the Bible to see the work and get going!
1. Jesus only did what His Father showed him
Joh 5:19 Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.
Joh 5:20 For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel.
2. You see your calling
1Co 1:26 For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called.
1Co 1:27 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty;
The whole point of this paragraph is to understand how God has chosen the foolishness of preaching to save those who believe in the message of the Gospel.
1Co 1:21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.
3. Lift up your head to see the harvest [work.]
Jesus ministered to the woman at the well in Samaria and utilized the gift of the word of knowledge to expose her heart and reveal the truth. As a result the whole village came to hear him. At the beginning of this journey we read:
Joh 4:4 But He needed to go through Samaria.
How did He know that He needed to go through there?
It was necessary for the salvation of that town. G1163 is the Greek word ‘dei’ and it is a binding forceful word. He felt He should.
That is often I God works in our hearts. We will be travelling through town and God lays someone on our hearts and we visit them and they say wow, God must have sent you!
I have learnt to trust my renewed inner man’s unction, that they are led by the Holy Spirit. Try it!
Joh 4:32 But He said to them, “I have food to eat of which you do not know.”
Joh 4:33 Therefore the disciples said to one another, “Has anyone brought Him anything to eat?”
Joh 4:34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.
Joh 4:35 Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest!
Joh 4:36 And he who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together.
Joh 4:37 For in this the saying is true: ‘One sows and another reaps.’
Joh 4:38 I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored, and you have entered into their labors.”
Joh 4:39 And many of the Samaritans of that city believed in Him because of the word of the woman who testified, “He told me all that I ever did.”
Joh 4:40 So when the Samaritans had come to Him, they urged Him to stay with them; and He stayed there two days.
Joh 4:41 And many more believed because of His own word.
4. In volume of book it is written of me to do your will
Heb 10:7 THEN I SAID, ‘BEHOLD, I HAVE COME— IN THE VOLUME OF THE BOOK IT IS WRITTEN OF ME— TO DO YOUR WILL, O GOD.’ ”
How else can we know for sure what god wants us to do?
You learn to hear from God with an open Bible. That is why we plant churches with Bible training centres around the world. You can’t have one without the other. Most churches get people excited about their programmes, but the teaching scratches the surface of what God’s Word really has for them. People end up taking vitamin supplements and get little gimmick resources to keep them going – most of them are on life-support spiritually. When you really give them solid food they say things like: “I’ve been in church for twenty years and I’ve never heard these things before!”
Jesus taught from the same scriptures as the Pharisees, but when He taught the people realized this guy has authority and understanding that blows the little pious, religious pastry dishes out of the water!
When you really get stuck into the word of God your life gets a new substance of faith that is way beyond the charismatic superficial blessing sermons. It contains spiritual mass building ingredients that get you ready for the next level of challenges and victories that await you.
5. We are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works prepared for us to walk in…
Eph 2:10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
Identity in Christ is so important. One little subject that changed my life at MBTC was “New Creation realities” – it was the shortest course we did. There were hardly a few pages of notes. You looked at the notes and thought, ok this is going to be an easy class! Then you start reading the list of new creation reality confessions and you realize: each reality is another phase of your Christian life and the Holy Spirit is going to have to help you realize it! When it kicks in and you start absorbing that reality a heart level, I mean you really believe in your deep innermost being that you are a new creation in Christ, then the identity starts to permeate your thinking, your emotions and even your physical body. One thing that I felt when I went through deliverance as a student, was that my mind and soul and spirit were so clear that I could really focus on what I was doing on a whole new level. For instance, I could play sprit and have no other thoughts on that blank canvas. I could then also study and have no distractions. Strong focus in spirit, soul and body is what Jesus had, and the good news is that you already have it by His Spirit in you! You just need to clear out the clutter.
With Orbital thinking, I have seen how people struggle to clear out the debris I their thinking. It takes a bit of time and effort to clear out a pathway for them to create a circuit around a truth that sets them into their orbit of existence around Jesus, like a planet around a Sun.
That is the definition of a planet:
The International Astronomical Union (IAU) stipulated three requirements
for planets:
They need to orbit the sun
They need to have enough gravity to pull them into a ball
They need to have cleared out all other objects from their orbit
6. Light shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your father in heaven.
Mat 5:14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.
Mat 5:15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.
Mat 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
The works we do as led by the Holy Spirit, reflect the glory of God. Do it with all your might and do it well so people can see the glory of your Father in heaven. We are also careful to give God the glory for any measure of success we enjoy!
So see the work and go for it! God is with you and His Spirit empowers you and Jesus’ name covers all you do!
