Here are some revelations about the flame on the day of Pentecost to give you confidence that God is with you and in you and to make you a better witness for Jesus Christ.
The day of Pentecost
When the Holy Spirit was poured out on the day of Pentecost it came in the form of a fire that divided itself into flames. Each flame sat on a disciple in the Upper Room where they were waiting for the Promise of God to pour out His Spirit on all flesh. Each flame had a name. The one flame went and sat on Peter and the other flame on John; another flame sat on James and another on Phillip. (Acts 2:1-5)
The Good News is that there is a flame of the Holy Ghost that has your name on it! There is a divine spark for you and me.
When Cornelius’s household were baptized in the Holy Spirit when Peter went to preach to them, Peter said they were filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke in tongues in the same way as it happened to them on the day of Pentecost. (Acts 10:44, 45)
All you need to start a fire is a spark.
The Holy Spirit is compared to many things, a dove, a fountain of living waters, a river of life, a mighty gushing wind and a fire and a flame. The Holy Spirit is the 3rd person in the Godhead. He has feelings and personality. God is a Spirit and God is a triune God, Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
God has reserved a divine spark just for you. When you are baptized in the Holy Ghost you receive that spark. When you need it, the spark inside of you will ignite and cause a fire of the Holy Spirit within you.
Jesus told His disciples when they are arrested to appear before judges that they do not have to pre-meditate what they will say, because the Holy Spirit will tell them what to say in the same hour. The spark inside of them will ignite and the flame will devour their opposition.
When the spark ignites within you, you will know what to say and what to do.
The Promise of God
This is the Promise God made to Abraham: in your Seed (meaning Christ) the whole earth shall be blessed. The Holy Spirit is the promised blessing that came through Christ Jesus. When He left the earth, He promised the Father would send His Holy Spirit to be within believers.
John teaches that the Holy Spirit within believers teaches them concerning all things. When the spark inside of a believer ignites, the Holy Spirit flame teaches them what to say and what to do.
God performs miracles when the Holy Spirit broods over a place. Right in the beginning the earth was dark, void, full of chaos and covered with water and the Spirit brooded over the face of the water. Then God said, ‘Let there be light! And there was light!’
Today your life might be full of darkness and chaos, but the Spirit is brooding over your life. God is ready to create something beautiful of your life.
‘Something beautiful, something good
All my confusion He understood
All I had to offer Him was brokenness and strife
But He made something beautiful
Out of my life.’
Here is God’s word for you today: ‘I know the thoughts I have concerning you, not thoughts to hurt you and cause you any harm, but good thoughts, to prosper you and to bless you.’
We are His workmanship
We are His workmanship created for good works to walk in them (Ephesians 2:10-12). Before the creation of the earth, God already knew what He would do with your life. You can trust Him. He created everything and it was good. When He made the sun and the moon and the stars, He saw that it was good. When He shaped the earth and all that is in it, He saw that it was good. God never made anything that was bad. He never made a mistake. He made you and me and He saw that we were good. He is our creator. We can trust Him.
He made man and created a space in man to receive the divine spark. It is the divine spark that advances the world. It is the divine spark in man that causes man to make discoveries and make inventions to advance the cause of mankind. He gave man wisdom to understand the deep things of life. He saw that man needed to know God and sent His only begotten Son so that everyone that believes in Him will have eternal life and will not perish. (John 3:16)
God is good
God is good and His mercy endures forever. It is the goodness of God that leads us to repentance. Look how good God has been to you. See how merciful He has treated you over the years. There is so much to be thankful for. You and I have a divine spark within us. The flame of God has your name on it. It is within you. It sparks off and bursts into flame when it is required. When you need it, the Holy Spirit tells you what to say and what to do. He is the creative force within you. Without Him we can do nothing. He prompts you at the right moment with divine insight, divine wisdom and knowledge. Suddenly you are given the understanding you require. You know what to say and what to do. Where does that knowledge come from? From the divine spark that is within you.
Faith has to be ignited
When the spark ignites you have faith to do what it shows you to do. Without faith it is impossible to please God. For he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6) Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not yet seen. (Hebrews 11:6)
When the doctors told Nola to make peace with the fact that I was dying, she said, ‘I only see victory for my husband! I see him walking out of this hospital!’ She had faith that gave her substance to hope for my recovery from death. She believed God would give my life back to me – and He did! Praise God!
We serve the God of the impossible. Nothing is impossible to Him. His divine spark can ignite possibilities that we have not dreamed of yet. He can do for you what no other man can ever do. God specializes in things thought impossible.
Instances of the divine spark
The divine spark in great explorers opened new worlds; the divine spark in great composers gave us beautiful music that lasts for centuries; the divine spark in great artists gave us beauty to behold; the divine spark in inventors helped us to have electricity, to have sewage systems, to have television and film, to have immunity against threatening diseases by inoculation; to develop education; to explore space and the depth of the ocean; to fly in planes and cross the ocean in large ships; to transplant hearts and kidneys; to make blood transfusion and to inject adrenaline to revive a heart that stopped beating.
Your contribution in this world
All that is good comes from God. All that is good comes from that divine spark. You have that divine spark within you. You will do good to others. You are a vital part of God’s plan for this world. Your contribution is vital. Your life is full of meaning. You influence others for good. People are attracted to you because you have a divine spark within you!
When you speak it ignites a divine spark in other people. When you lay hands on the sick in the Name of Jesus, a divine spark of healing is ignited. When you greet people with joy in your heart, it sparks of a great joy unspeakable and full of glory in other people. The flame of God has your name on it. Believe it!
When you speak in other tongues as the Spirit gives you utterance you ignite a divine spark within you that bursts into flame! You communicate directly to God by the Spirit. God is invisible, but you can speak to Him and He hears you when you pray. You build up your holy faith by praying in the spirit.
When you worship God in spirit and truth you ignite a divine spark within you. God seeks those who worship Him in spirit and truth. He inhabits the praises of His people. It is pleasing to God when we worship Him in spirit and truth.
When you operate in faith it ignites faith in other people. You are the divine spark that people need to believe God that all things are possible. When you operate in faith, God moves on your behalf! Men and women of faith moved the hand of God throughout the ages. You are one of those! God placed you here so that He can accomplish His great purpose through you.
And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28) The divine spark is Christ within, the hope of glory!
May God ignite that flame of the Holy Spirit within you today! May a divine spark ignite that flame, in Jesus’ Name!
